A Product Review

Every so often, we review a product or service that might be helpful analyzing or managing your investments. You can find a growing list in the Tools tab on our website.

I thought I'd start off with a charting service we use to generate charts of individual stocks as well as track certain indicators of market health. Indeed, we use their charts to illustrate some of the ideas and concepts presented in our newsletter. That service is (envelope please...):

Stockcharts.com

Stockcharts.com has been around for more than 20 years. It offers all sorts of chart types - bar, line, candlestick, and point & figure to list a few. These charts can be applied to stocks, commodities, crypto currencies, and more. You will find yield curves, heat maps, all sorts of reports, chart galleries, and extensive educational resources.

You can use a fair amount of the service for free. Here is a link to their free charts page. In fact, I suggest you spend some time experimenting there before considering the paid subscription offerings which range in price from about $15 to $40 per month.

Stockcharts is a powerful charting package, particularly if you take the time to learn about all the services they offer. It is important to note, however, that Stockcharts.com is primarily a technical service (price and volume data). There's not a lot of fundamental data included. So if you are looking for more than price charts, Stockcharts.com may not be for you. We'll be reviewing other services that offer both technical and fundamental data soon.
