In May 1792, 24 stockbrokers formed the country's first organized stock exchange. The Buttonwood Agreement, as it is called, was signed under the buttonwood tree outside 68 Wall Street in New York City where these brokers traditionally met to trade stock.
Under A Buttonwood Tree is our virtual buttonwood tree. But we won't be trading stocks. Rather, we'll share information and knowledge on markets, the economy, and the policies that affect them. (And, we'll occasionally include other material as well - got to have a little fun now and then!)
We believe investing is a very personal endeavor, governed by our own financial situations, risk tolerances, goals, and time horizons. So, don't expect us to recommend specific stocks or investment strategies. Do expect thoughtful commentary on companies, strategies, and the economic and political trends affecting markets. In addition to original content, we will direct you to articles, blog posts, podcasts, and more we think you will find helpful.
Our publication schedule will vary as events warrant. We know you are inundated with emails - much of it junk. We'll try not to be part of the problem!
